Roy F. Mitte, retired chief executive officer of Austin-based Financial Industries Corp. and noted philanthropist, died Saturday from complications due to a stroke. He was 74.
Mitte was president and chairman of the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation, which gave scholarship funds to more than 600 students in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Mitte and his wife Joann are alumni of Texas State University, where the Physics and Technology Complex is named in his honor.
